Garaad 16 is Garad Mahamud not mahamed, he is also the son of garaad 15 garaad ali and brother of Garaad 18 Garaad Jamac..

Garaad 17 is a distant relative of the current royal family we are not sure of his father. He was a regent and held the throne until the royal family came back to the Nogaal Valley.

The bartire Garaads i gave u the list if u want u more info ask an absame or ogaden.

Hmm none of the Garaads of Bartire were brothers or uncles of the previous Garaad?

Thank you for your help with the Garaads of Dhulbahante :)

Not sure about that.

Have you found anything going into details about the Harti family in the 14th century during the wars?

John speke over 160 yrs ago...Adventures in Somali Land "According to traditional histories furnished me by the natives who accompanied me on the journeys I undertook, it appears that the present Somali are of rather recent origin, not more than four and a half centuries old. About the year 1413, an Arab chieftain, Darud-bin-Ismail".....

And also Garaad Mahamud Korebas son of Gerad ALI and Gerad Mahamud Gerad Ali of the Warsangeli were the the Contemparary of Richard burton and John speke. (john speke calls both Gerad Mahamed ali)

James, can we add when our Geraads reigned? I have been talking to my Grandparents and elders of my community about the eras our Gerads ruled, they have been telling me about the years each ruled and things that happened and so on.

furthermore Dhulbaahante still commorate a Victory of their Army led By Prince/Amir Abdi (Qayad)son Gerad Shirshore, over the Ethiopians. every Dhulbahante throws a rock at the Ethiopian General and his armies grave yard it's in Southern Sool, we are estimating Qayaad lived around the early to mid 1500s it was during Ahmed Gurey time and maybe Dhulbahante was expanding it territory milatirly from the early Gaala or Abbysian supporters. what do you think?

one more thing, Mahamud Suleman of the Majerteen is a Contemparary Of Gerad Shirshore.

His Sons Osman, Cumar and Ciise, lived during the times of Garaad Farah,Abdi and Mahamud Gerad, his Grandsons during Garaad Abdale and Garaad Yasin etc..

The First Majerten Boqor/Suldan was Cali, so he lived around the time of Gerad Mahamed (Bahrarsame)Ugardhyanah, Jama Siyad, Barkad, Ahmed Garad and Gerad Mahamud Jabane..

There was a lot of fighting at the time, but in southern Sool I imagine it would be a later Ethiopian general, most of the fighting in the early 1500s was further west in the highlands or around Harar.

There were Ethiopian armies much further east, perhaps even as far as Sool, much earlier though. Emperor Dawit I had armies occupying Adal, which stretched to the border of Sool, and he may have tried to conquer further east. He invaded in the early 1400s, so there is an earlier possibility for the grave as well.

Garad was a title of the Adal Empire, which indicates that the Dhulbahante were part of the Adal Empire, Garad indicated governor. If 1530 is the correct date, that would mean that Garad Shireshore was appointed governor by Ahmed Gurey himself.

I will endeavor to add in the reigns when I get home later

Thanks,

That's the conclusion I also came to, we traced him back to that time period and we know his greater Harti & Darod tribes were in the War as well as other Somalis, but his ancestors were leaders too Cheifs and Head of the Family, but he took a title, Ugaas first then Garaad so am guessing he led his tribesmen the brave men who fought in the War we read about, and he was awarded the title.

Different question,

On your maps about Somalia, why do you make Dhulbahante/ Khaatumo, Neutral/Unaligned? what does that suppose to mean? it's really offensive to Dhubahante because they have always been pro-goverment.
